Amazon driver in serious condition after 'highly venomous' snake attack in Palm City

An Amazon driver was rushed to hospital in a “very serious condition” after a rattlesnake bit her on the leg.

The woman was dropping off a parcel at a home in Palm City, Florida, when the reptile sunk its fangs into her leg.

The Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake was coiled by the front door when the driver arrived on Monday.

As she walked to the door and put the package down, she was bitten in the back of the leg – just above the knee, authorities said.

After the attack at the gated community of Highland Reserve, she immediately fell ill but managed to call 911.

Emergency services were able to use her phone’s GPS to find her location.

The unidentified woman is in a “very serious condition” in hospital, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said.

It described the Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake as “highly venomous” and common to the area.

Branden Baribeau, a spokesman for Amazon, said: “Our thoughts are with the driver and we hope for a full recovery after this frightening incident.

“Together, with the Delivery Service Partner, we’re looking into the circumstances surrounding this incident and continue to make sure that drivers understand they should not complete a delivery if they feel unsafe.”
