Buckingham Palace has revealed the 30 guests who will be attending Prince Philip’s funeral at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle on Saturday.
Coronavirus restrictions meant the ceremony has had to be scaled down, with only 30 guests allowed in contrast with the estimated 800 originally planned to attend.
The shortened guest list includes many of the Duke of Edinburgh‘s closest relatives but his great-grandchildren – including Princess Charlotte and Prince George – will not be there as they were likely thought too young for the televised proceedings.
The funeral will take place on Saturday at 3pm following the duke’s death last Friday and will be preceded by a national one-minute silence.
Those leading the procession include Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince William, Prince Harry, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.
Here is the full list of all the attendees:
The Queen
His partner of more than 70 years, there was no doubt the Queen would attend the funeral.
She had famously once described him as her “strength and stay” and many have commented on the closeness of their relationship and the special bond they shared.
Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall
Charles and Camilla were seen looking at tributes outside Buckingham Palace on Thursday in their first public appearance together since the duke’s death.
The prince paid tribute to his “dear Papa” at the weekend, saying he was a “very special person”.
Princess Anne and Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence
The Princess Royal was extremely close to her father and had shared a love of sailing with him.
Following his death, she shared a moving statement saying she was not ready for his passing and described him as “my teacher, my supporter and my critic”.
She will be joined at the funeral by her husband Sir Timothy Laurence, a retired Royal Navy officer.
Prince Andrew
Although he has largely stepped out of the spotlight, the Duke of York did speak to reporters following his father’s death.
He said the Queen had described the loss as leaving a “huge void” in her life.
Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex
The Queen and Prince Philip’s youngest son Edward will eventually inherit the title of the Duke of Edinburgh under plans first announced in 1999.
Joining his family members in paying tribute, the Earl of Wessex said his father had the “unique ability to make a lasting impression in a remarkably short time”.
“I, like all my family, have a lifetime of lasting impressions, inspiration, shared passions and love,” he said.
His wife, Sophie, has shared a close relationship with the Queen and tearfully told Sky News outside Windsor Castle that the monarch has “been amazing” since Prince Philip’s death.
Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will also be in attendance, although they will travel separately.
Prince William, the future heir, will be part of the procession bringing the duke’s body to St George’s Chapel.
His wife, Kate, will depart from Windsor Castle.
Prince Harry
The Duke of Sussex has already travelled to the UK from his home in California and is in quarantine ahead of the funeral.
He is able to attend due to a loophole in the travel restrictions which mean foreign arrivals can break their self-isolation to attend the funeral of a close family member.
It’s the first time he has returned to the UK since Harry and Meghan’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which they made allegations about their treatment by members of the Royal Family.
Harry’s pregnant wife Meghan has not flown over for the funeral on the medical advice of her doctor.
Peter Phillips
He is Princess Anne’s oldest child, and his father is Anne’s first husband, Captain Mark Phillips.
As Captain Phillips did not have a royal title, Mr Phillips was not given a royal title at birth.
He has largely been under the radar although has a very close relationship with the Queen.
Zara and Mike Tindall
As well as being Princess Anne’s daughter, Zara Tindall is also known for being an Olympic medal-winning equestrian.
She will be attending the funeral alongside her husband, England rugby player Mike Tindall.
Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi
The princess is Prince Andrew’s oldest daughter.
In an interview in 2016 for ITV documentary Our Queen At Ninety, Princess Beatrice had become emotional as she described the “magical moments” she had had with her grandfather, Prince Philip.
She will be joined at the funeral by her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, who she married last year.
Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank
The younger daughter of Prince Andrew, Eugenie will be at the proceedings alongside her husband Jack Brooksbank.
In a heartfelt tribute to her grandfather on Instagram, Princess Eugenie said he had taught her “how to cook, how to paint, what to read” and she would also remember him fondly for his sense of humour.
“I remember incinerating the sausages and you swooping in to save the day,” she wrote.
She added that she will look after “Granny” for him.
Viscount Severn and Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor
The teenagers are the two children of the Earl and Countess of Wessex and the youngest grandchildren of the Queen and Prince Philip.
James, Viscount Severn, is 13 and his older sister Lady Louise is 17.
Lady Sarah and Mr Daniel Chatto
The daughter of the late Princess Margaret – the Queen’s sister – and her husband prefer to keep out of the royal spotlight but maintain a close relationship with senior royals.
The Queen, who decided the guestlist for the funeral, will likely have wanted her sister’s children there as a source of comfort.
Earl of Snowdon
David Armstrong-Jones is also a child of Princess Margaret’s and the Queen’s nephew.
He is also close to the Queen and became the 2nd Earl of Snowdon following the death of his father, Antony Armstrong-Jones, in 2017.
Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester
The Duke of Gloucester is the Queen’s cousin and a working member of the Royal Family.
Duke of Kent
Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, is another of the Queen’s cousins and the older brother of Prince Michael of Kent and Princess Alexandra.
Princess Alexandra, the Hon. Lady Ogilvy
She is also a cousin of the Queen and the widow of businessman Sir Angus Ogilvy, who died in 2004.
The Hereditary Prince of Baden
Bernhard, Hereditary Prince of Baden, is a German nobleman and a great-nephew of Prince Philip.
He is among three of the duke’s German relatives who were reportedly flown to the UK over the weekend and are isolating at a home in Ascot, according to The Mirror.
Prince Philip himself was German through his mother’s side and this part of his family was always close to the duke’s heart.
The Landgrave of Hesse
Prince Donatus is the head of the German House of Hesse, into which Prince Philip’s younger sisters Cecile and Sophie married.
Prince Philipp of Hohenlohe-Langenburg
The Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg’s grandmother, Princess Margarita, was the Duke of Edinburgh’s older sister.
Countess Mountbatten of Burma
Penelope Knatchbull was one of the closest friends of the Queen and Prince Philip, and married into the Royal Family through Norton Knatchbull, 3rd Earl of Mountbatten.
Prince Charles was the best man at their wedding in 1979.
