How must it feel to live a life where a change in your hairdo over the summer becomes global news?
Step forward the Princess of Wales back on her first job after the holidays, and cue the headlines, is she blonde or “bronde” (a popular hair colour that combines blonde and brunette shades)?
I’m no Vidal Sassoon but I can tell you it’s not quite as brown anymore.
And it’s a hairdo that performs spectacularly in the rain (I need her hair product!), as both the Prince William and Kate, and some poor unsuspecting schoolchildren, got caught out in a massive shower.
Not exactly the connection with nature they were hoping for, as they were meant to be doing some pond-dipping outside the Natural History Museum looking at their new nature garden project, but the rain stopped all that and sent them indoors.
From debates over a longer or shorter cut, or the appearance of “bangs” (that’s a fringe if you didn’t know), Kate has been here many times before.
I remember there was once a two-page spread on her eyebrows. So this latest fuss won’t come as a surprise, even though there is no doubt some audible eye-rolling behind palace walls.
“Is there a message in the new hair?” is one of the questions I’ve been asked.

In the past there have been suggestions that she’s worn certain clothes to send subtle signals.
The simple answer with this one is, ummm, no. But as we head into a new royal term, and after the turmoil of her illness last year, one thing it hopefully will signal is the start of us seeing more of the princess and her work over the coming months.
And maybe we can all just calm down about the hair.
