Tesla Model Y and Model 3 get slight range bumps

Tesla has increased the range of a couple of Model Y and Model 3 configurations. It’s only a slight bump, but we will take it.

Model Y, Tesla’s best-selling vehicle by a wide margin, has received a very slight range increase for the Long Range Dual Motor.

It went from 308 to 311 miles on a single charge:

We are talking about a 1% increase in range here. It’s nothing to write home about, but the reason behind it could be interesting.

Unlike most other automakers, Tesla doesn’t wait for new model year vehicles to implement changes in its vehicle lineup.

In this case, it’s not clear if this change in range is linked to improvements in efficiency, battery capacity, or EPA multiplier update.

Tesla is expected to update the Model Y with a new “Juniper” design refresh early next year. It’s possible that Tesla is already implementing some of these changes, which are being reflected in the range.

With that said, Model 3, which already got its refresh, is also getting a slight range bump.

The Model 3 Long Range Dual Motor with 19″ wheels saw an increase today from 305 miles to now 316 miles:

In this case, the increase only affects the Model 3 on 19″, which might point more to new EPA cycle testing than a change in efficiency or powertrain.
