A small boat believed to be carrying six people on the River Thames in Surrey has capsized, with one person still missing.
Surrey Police’s Elmbridge Beat said they were called to Sunbury Lock, near Wheatleys Eyot, at around 8.50am on Friday to reports of “a small boat capsizing”.
The force is currently at the scene along with South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAMB) and Surrey Fire and Rescue.
Rescuers are still searching for the missing person, and have asked the public to avoid the area.
A SECAMB spokesperson said three of the five rescued from the river were taken to hospital for further checks.
“We believe that there were six people involved in the incident, and five of these have been safely located,” Elmbridge added.
“We are working to locate the outstanding person and will update you as soon as we have more information.
“Please avoid the area if possible.”
