The Hyundai IONIQ 5 EV is red-hot after another record sales month in March

The IONIQ 5 is on a hot streak after another record US sales month in March, helping push Hyundai to its strongest first quarter yet.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 EV sales rebound in March

Hyundai sold just over 84,000 vehicles in the US last month, down 3% compared to March 2025. Electrified vehicles, including hybrids and the IONIQ 5 EV, posted higher growth.

Higher demand for the Sonata HEV (+150%), Elantra EV (+92%), and Santa Fe HEV (+31%) led to record hybrid sales in March.

Meanwhile, the IONIQ 5 is heating up again, achieving its second consecutive record sales month in 2026 with 4,425 units sold, up 13% from March 2025.

Through the first three months of the year, Hyundai IONIQ 5 sales are up 14% year over year, totaling 9,790 units.

Despite selling fewer vehicles last month than the year prior, Hyundai still posted record Q1 sales on stronger demand for SUVs and electrified vehicles.

“Hyundai closed the first quarter with a 1 percent year-over-year increase in total sales, delivering the strongest first quarter in our history and underscoring the resilience of our business in a highly competitive market,” Hyundai Motor North America president and CEO, Randy Parker, said.

The growth was thanks to strong demand and “record results across our hybrid electric and electrified lineup,” Parker explained.

Hyundai closed out the first quarter with total sales of 205,388, up 1% year over year. While the IONIQ 5 remains one of the top-selling EVs in the US, sales of the IONIQ 6 are down 75% through March with just 829 units sold. Hyundai has already confirmed the IONIQ 6 will not return for a 2026 model year.

Meanwhile, Hyundai sold another 905 IONIQ 9s in March, bringing the total to 1,990 through the first three months of 2026.

While the deals expired on March 31, Hyundai was offering up to $10,000 in total savings on all 2026 IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9 trims. We’ll keep you updated with the latest offers. You can find local deals using the links below.
