Tesla increases Model 3 range in Europe thanks to new LG battery

Tesla has increased the range of a few Model 3 variants in Europe after updating the Chinese-made Model 3 with new battery cells from LG.

One of the great advantages of electric vehicles is that they improve with advancements in battery technology.

When your supplier introduces better battery cells that meet your requirements, you can integrate them into your battery pack, resulting in significant performance improvements. Those cells are often the same format, which means little to no changes are needed to integrate them.

That’s what happened with the Model 3 in China last month when Tesla introduced a new battery cell from LG Energy in the vehicle.

We reported that the new longest-range Model 3 can now achieve up to 830 km (515 miles) of range, based on the CLTC standard, which is arguably the least demanding one.

The Model 3 vehicles that Tesla sells in Europe also come from China, and therefore, they are now getting the update.

Tesla updated its website to reflect that the Model 3 Long Range RWD gets up 750 km (466 miles) on a single charge based on the WLTP drive cycle:

The Long Range AWD also gets a bump to 660 km (410 miles) and the Model 3 Performance is now quoted with 571 km (355 miles).

A new battery cell from LG Energy, known as the LG 5M, is responsible for the boost in energy density and range.

The updated Model 3 also features a front bumper camera, and Tesla is reintroducing the turning signal stalk after removing it during the original refresh in 2024.
