Sir Keir Starmer has announced the UK has officially recognised Palestine as a state.
“Today, to revive the hope of peace for the Palestinians and Israelis, and a two state solution, the United Kingdom formally recognises the State of Palestine,” the prime minister said on X.
Sir Keir said in July that the government would make the move unless Israel met certain conditions.
It comes ahead of a conference of the UN General Assembly in New York this week, which is set to be dominated by questions of Palestinian statehood.
Canada and Australia also officially recognised Palestinian statehood on Sunday.
