Mercedes-Benz is expanding its DC fast-charging network with Alpitronic’s high-power technology. Starting in 2026, the automaker will roll out Alpitronic’s new HYC1000 fast charging system at its stations in Europe and North America, capable of delivering up to 600 kW at each charging point – or 200 miles in 10 minutes.
Most current fast chargers have power units built directly into the charging column and can only serve one or two EVs. The HYC1000 changes that. Its modular setup uses an external power unit that delivers up to 1,000 kW at 800 amps. That power is intelligently distributed across multiple charging points through smart load management, which means sites can scale depending on location needs. A single charging point can push up to 600 kW at 800 volts. To put that into perspective, a Mercedes-Benz CLA could gain up to 325 kilometers (202 miles) of range in just 10 minutes.
Additionally, Mercedes-Benz and Alpitronic are working on a dedicated high-performance fast charger inspired by the company’s recent benchmark: topping 1 megawatt of charging power with the CONCEPT AMG GT XX. That record was achieved with a single CCS cable handling up to 1,000 amps. The goal is to make EV charging as fast and effortless as filling up at the pump.
Alpitronic’s hardware know-how is coupled with Mercedes-Benz’s system integration and infrastructure expertise. Everything from development labs to test benches to real-world stress trials are being used to bring this ultra-fast technology to market. Bolzano, Italy-based Alpitronic’s Hyperchargers achieve, on average, an efficiency rate greater than 97.5%.
Mercedes-Benz charging hubs are open to all drivers, but Mercedes-Benz owners get perks, including automatic route planning with charging stops, MB.CHARGE Public charging service, and the ability for their car’s MB.OS system to reserve a charging spot. Through MB.CHARGE Public, Mercedes-Benz drivers get access to one of the world’s largest charging networks—over 2.5 million charging points run by more than 1,700 providers.
The network itself is growing quickly. Mercedes-Benz already has hubs in Germany, the US, China, Austria, and Japan, with around 80 locations live. The automaker says it will add hubs in up to eight more countries within a year. The plan is to open more than 10,000 fast-charging points worldwide by 2030.
Beyond building its own network, Mercedes-Benz is also part of joint ventures including IONITY in Europe, IONNA in North America, and IONCHI in China.
