Lucid (LCID) Air drivers can now use these Hands-Free driving features

The Lucid Air is already the most energy-efficient vehicle, and now it’s getting advanced new features. Starting Wednesday, Lucid Air drivers can unlock Hand-Free Driving and other features.

Lucid Air gains new Hands-Free driving features

Earlier this month, Lucid announced that a major software update was about to roll out, giving drivers access to new Hands-Free driving features.

Starting Wednesday, July 30, Lucid Air owners can unlock Hands-Free Drive Assist and Hands-Free Change Assist.

The company said the new capabilities “will allow customers to experience easy-to-use and intuitive hands-free driving and hands-free lane change assist on compatible divided highways.” Like other ADAS systems, you can activate the features by using the turn signal.

Air owners can unlock the upgrades through an over-the-air (OTA) software update. Although it’s currently only available for the Air, Lucid said Gravity owners will gain access later this year.

The update marks a major milestone for Lucid’s DreamDrive Pro. According to Lucid’s vice president of ADAD and AD, Kai Stepper, the new features “offer a glimpse into the future that Lucid is building” through its software-defined vehicles.

DreanmDrive Pro is available as an optional upgrade for Lucid vehicles, costing an extra $950 plus tax. It already offers safety features like 3D lane visualization, adaptive cruise control, and more.

The system includes a LiDAR radar, visible-light cameras, surround-view cameras, and ultrasonic radars. Lucid’s in-house software stack features 32 sensors in total. With more OTA updates in the pipeline, Stepper promises, “We have a roadmap to continue to deliver significantly more functionality to our owners in the future.”

Just last month, Lucid introduced Android Auto Smart Driving Companion through an OTA update (Lucid OS 2.7.0), enabling you to connect your smartphone to Lucid’s 34″ Air Glass Cockpit display.

Through the first half of the year, the Lucid Air was the best-selling luxury electric sedan in the US, outselling the Tesla Model S. It has even outsold most gas-powered vehicles in its segment.

With the $7,500 federal EV tax credit set to expire at the end of September, Lucid is offering generous discounts on Air and Gravity models. If you’re looking to test out Lucid’s electric vehicles for yourself, you can use our links below to find models in your area.
