Kia launches the EV4 Fastback at an affordable price with up to 380 miles range

The EV4 Fastback is Kia’s first four-door electric car. As its most aerodynamic EV, the Fastback can drive up to 380 miles on a single charge. It arrives at an affordable price, but is it enough to compete with the Tesla Model 3?

Earlier this month, Kia introduced the EV4 Hatchback, its first electric hatch. The new Fastback model is the four-door sibling that will be sold alongside it.

The Kia EV4 Fastback starts at £40,895 ($55,000) in the UK, or slightly more than the EV3 (£32,995). Powered by an 81.4 kWh battery pack, the sedan offers an impressive range of up to 380 miles.

Unlike the hatch, it will not be available with the smaller 58.2 kWh battery pack option. The Fastback is 300 mm longer and 5 mm lower than the hatchback variant at 4,730 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,480 mm in height.

It will be available in two trims: GT-Line and GT-Line S. Both variants are powered by a single front motor with 201 hp and 283 Nm torque, good for a 0 to 62 mph sprint in 7.9 seconds.

With a drag coefficient of just 0.23 Cd, the EV4 Fastback is Kia’s most aerodynamic EV yet, helping unlock up to 380 miles of driving range.

Based on a 400V architecture, the electric sedan can recharge from 10% to 80% in just 29 minutes. However, Long-range models will take around 31 minutes.

The interior features a similar setup to the EV3, which is the UK’s most popular retail EV through the first half of the year.

Kia’s new connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) is at the center, featuring nearly 30″ of screen space. The setup includes dual 12.3″ driver display and infotainment screens, plus an added 5″ climate control touchscreen.

The EV4 hatch and Fastback models are the first Kia vehicles to include several new entertainment features, including Rest mode and Theatre mode.

Kia opened orders for the new Fastback variant on Thursday, with deliveries set to begin this fall alongside the hatchback variant.

The base GT-Line starts at £40,895 ($55,000), while the S trim is priced from £45,395 ($60,100). In comparison, the Tesla Model 3 RWD starts at £39,990 ($54,600) with a WLTP range of 323 miles. The Long Range version, with a 436-mile range, is priced from £44,990 ($60,300).

After launching the Fastback version in its home market earlier this year, the EV4 became the best-selling domestic EV sedan in Korea in May. Will it see the same demand in overseas markets?
