Hyundai sold more vehicles in the US in the first half of the year than it has since it launched in 1986. As it ramps up production at its new EV plant in Georgia, Hyundai says this is just the start.
Hyundai sold more vehicles in the US in 2025 than ever
“We just wrapped up the strongest first half in Hyundai’s history,” the CEO of Hyundai’s North American operations, Randy Parker, chanted on Monday.
Hyundai sold a record 439,280 vehicles in the first half of 2025, representing a 10% increase from the same period last year. It’s the most vehicles Hyundai has sold in the US since the brand arrived in 1986. Hyundai also set new records for Q2 and June sales, with 235,726 units (+10%) and 69,702 units (+3%) sold, respectively.
After celebrating the grand opening of its new Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA), a massive new EV manufacturing plant in Georgia, the company expects the momentum to pick up later this year.
Parker said that with a “growing lineup of American-made vehicles” and new market campaigns, Hyundai is “building momentum with every mile.”
Although sales of the popular IONIQ 5 slipped last month, they remain up through the first half of the year. The IONIQ 5 remains a top-selling EV in the US with 19,092 units sold through June, up 2% from last year.
After Hyundai began delivering its first three-row electric SUV, the IONIQ 9, in May, the company reported that it had sold 1,013 units through the end of June.
The three-row IONIQ 9 is built at Hyundai’s new electric vehicle plant in Georgia, alongside the updated 2025 IONIQ 5.
Hyundai’s new manufacturing plant is capable of producing up to 300,000 vehicles annually. If needed, Hyundai said output can expand to around 500,000 units.
