Grading MLB's City Connect uniforms: Astros' second attempt earns a C

Uniform changes can be polarizing. Some sports fans like tradition. Others welcome innovation. One thing is certain: They get us talking.

Major League Baseball’s City Connect uniforms, which launched in 2021, have done exactly that. Nike has worked with MLB teams to create a uniform that reflects each baseball city’s culture and community, similar to the NBA’s city jersey series that began in 2017.

There were 29 uniforms released through the 2024 season — including two for the Los Angeles Dodgers. This year, we’ve seen the release of a second set of City Connect uniforms for the Houston Astros and will also be getting another set from the Washington Nationals (to be worn for the first time on March 29), San Francisco Giants (April 8), Colorado Rockies (April 18), Chicago White Sox (May 2), Miami Marlins (May 3), Arizona Diamondbacks (May 9) and Boston Red Sox (May 16).

The Athletics and New York Yankees remain the only teams without one.
