Woman and girl found dead in Salford home named - as police say they believe 'there are no suspicious circumstances'

A woman and an eight-year-old girl who were found dead inside a house in Salford have been named.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to South Radford Street just after 10.30am on Monday following reports of concern for welfare at the property.

Martina Karos, 40, and Eleni Edwards have now been named by officers, who say their investigations are continuing – though they believe “there are no suspicious circumstances”.

Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Whalley said: “My thoughts, and the thoughts of the entire investigation team remain with the family of Martina and Eleni.

“It is such a tragic loss of life, and our main priority is keeping their loved ones updated throughout the investigation.”

A cordon will remain in place on the scene, she added, and she confirmed police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.

“We believe that there are no suspicious circumstances and we are working to conclude our investigation and pass a file to the coroner,” she said.

Flowers have been left outside the property behind the cordon manned by a single officer.

GMP said all known next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

A spokesperson for Salford City Council said earlier their “thoughts and prayers” are with family and friends.
