Dodgers place C Barnes on IL with fractured toe

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed veteran catcher Austin Barnes on the 10-day injured list with a fractured left big toe Monday.

The Dodgers recalled catcher Hunter Feduccia from Triple-A Oklahoma City to take Barnes’ place on the active roster.

Barnes played in Sunday night’s game at the Atlanta Braves but was replaced by No. 1 catcher Will Smith in the fifth inning. Barnes later had X-rays on his left big toe, which revealed a new fracture in a different spot than a fracture he sustained last month.

Barnes, 34, has appeared in 52 games in 2024, his 10th season with the Dodgers. He’s batted .261 with one home run and 11 RBIs and spent some time at second base as well as catcher.

Feduccia, 27, made his major league debut earlier this year. He played in two games for the Dodgers, entering one as a pinch hitter July 31 and starting one game at catcher Aug. 25 against Tampa Bay.

Feduccia is batting .284 with six homers and 50 RBIs in 82 games for Oklahoma City this year.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts also revealed that relief pitcher Joe Kelly (shoulder) rejoined the team Monday and will be activated later this week when Los Angeles plays at the Miami Marlins.
