Woman stabbed at Notting Hill Carnival was caught in middle of fight between two groups, police believe

Three men have been arrested over the stabbing of a woman at Notting Hill Carnival – with police believing the victim was caught in the middle of a fight between two groups of men.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and violent disorder.

While a 24-year-old man and a 22-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

The woman, 32, is still in a life-threatening condition.

“While the investigation is ongoing, initial inquiries suggest the woman got caught up in the middle of an altercation between two groups of men,” the Metropolitan Police said. “It’s not yet clear if they were known to her.”

All three were arrested at separate addresses in Hammersmith and Fulham on Tuesday morning. They remain in custody.

Commander Charmain Brenyah said the arrests are a “significant step” in the investigation and his thoughts remain with the victim who was “caught up in the most awful violence”.

It comes after police said five more people were stabbed and 230 were arrested on the closing day of the carnival in west London.

“I’d also like to acknowledge the incredible work of the officers, including police medics, who arrived so quickly – delivering emergency medical treatment and securing the scene to preserve vital evidence,” Commander Brenyah added.

“Our investigations into the other incidents over the weekend continue.”
