Two men found dead in a burned-out car in Sweden were British nationals, officials say.
Juan Cifuentes, 33, and Farooq Abdulrazak, 37, were reported missing in July after failing to return home from a business trip to Denmark and Sweden.
The pair’s car was found in Malmo, with Swedish media reporting that at least one of the victims was shot before the vehicle was set on fire.
Swedish prosecutors say they have now identified remains as belonging to the two men.
Prosecutor Magnus Petterson told Sky News that a “large murder investigation” remains in place, as well as a public appeal for any information related to the case.
“We are trying to figure out exactly what happened on the spot, why the British nationals were in Malmo and what happened after,” he said.
“We are looking at a very large amount of digital evidence and analysing it. Evidence from mobile phones, surrounding cameras, all the things we use as humans to communicate.”
No one has been arrested over the deaths.
‘Beautiful, hardworking souls’
A joint statement from the families of Mr Cifuentes and Mr Abdulrazak, described the pair as “pillars” within their communities who would be missed.

“We are sincerely devastated, broken in many ways words cannot describe,” the statement, released through the Metropolitan Police, said.
“We have lost two beautiful, innocent, hardworking souls. Our loss has not only shattered our family and friends but has also impacted our local community deeply.”
Mr Cifuentes was described as a “devout Muslim” and “beloved father, son, brother, and friend” who was “always present for those in need, regardless of their faith”.
“His legacy lives on in his children, who embody the love and values he instilled in them,” the statement read.
Mr Abdulrazak was described as a “beautiful, selfless, humble soul, someone always willing to help others”.

His family said: “There was never a day that goes by where he didn’t help someone through a kind act, generous words, support with a good cause or being hospitable.
“He is an amazing son, husband, brother, uncle and friend who provided security, comfort, and love, and always bought laughter and light upon everyone.”

According to reports at the time, the men had rented a Toyota Rav 4 at Copenhagen Airport before it was found as a burned-out shell at around 2pm local time on 14 July.
Images from the scene showed forensic investigators examining what was left of the car and police tape securing off the area.
