Sainsbury's unable to fulfil 'vast majority' of online deliveries after suffering 'technical issues'

Sainsbury’s has said it is suffering “technical issues affecting some stores” – impacting its ability to fulfil the “vast majority” of online deliveries today.

The supermarket chain said in a statement to Sky News: “Due to an error with an overnight software update, we are experiencing issues with contactless payments.

“Unfortunately, this means we will not be able to deliver the vast majority of today’s Groceries Online orders and we are currently unable to contact customers directly, but will contact them as soon as we can to rebook orders,” a spokesperson said.

Sainsbury’s said it was “working hard to fix the issue” and apologised to customers affected.

“All of our stores are open as usual today, accepting chip and pin and cash payments.”

The supermarket also assured customers on X, formerly Twitter that their personal data “will still be safe and secure even with the issues going on”.

It advised one affected customer to rebook their delivery from Monday onwards.
