A 15-year-old boy who died after a stabbing near a school in Leeds has been named as Alfie Lewis.
The teenager was attacked on St Margaret’s Avenue in the Horsforth area of the city on Tuesday, according to the head of a nearby school.
Police said two teenage boys have been arrested, and a murder investigation is under way.
Tributes have been paid to Alfie online and at a local church.
Paul Bell, head of Horsforth School, had earlier confirmed that the victim was a former pupil.
Dr Bell said the school is “overwhelmed by the kindness and support offered to us following the tragic loss of one of our former students yesterday”.
“A tragedy like this is a huge shock to our school and local community, and we understand that people will be deeply affected by this rare incident,” he said.
He added: “However, we know the community will rally together to support each other during this very sad and difficult time.”
On Wednesday morning, people were seen bringing flowers to the scene of the stabbing at the junction of Church Road and Church Lane, which remained cordoned off.
People were also seen hugging each other, with some wiping away tears at a candlelight vigil on Tuesday.
A GoFundMe page has raised more than £5,000 so far for Alfie’s family. The page described the teen as a “kind and thoughtful boy who had all of his friends’ best interests at heart”.

Senior investigating officer for West Yorkshire Police, Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson, said earlier: “Our investigation is at an early stage and we are carrying out extensive inquiries to establish exactly what led to this needless loss of a young man’s life.
“We understand the immense impact and huge shock a tragic incident of this nature will have on the community locally.”
She said police have spoken to a number of witnesses, but they are keen to hear from anyone who has information about what happened.
‘A waste of two lives’
A nearby resident, who was picking her grandchild up from school when she saw the police cars and ambulance, said it didn’t cross her mind at first that the emergency response was because of a stabbing.
She said: “I thought it was a car crash at first.
“The school was very good, they messaged us to say they were keeping the children safe inside.
“I was very sad when I heard what had happened, it sounds like it’s a waste of two lives.”
