Body found in search for hiker who vanished seven weeks ago

A body has been found in the search for a missing hillwalker who vanished in the Scottish Highlands almost seven weeks ago.

The remains are yet to be formally identified, but the family of Charles Kelly have been informed.

Mr Kelly, also known as Charlie, disappeared during a trek in Glen Etive.

The 56-year-old set off from his home in Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire, on Wednesday 6 September.

Police Scotland said his family last heard from him the following night and urged all those hiking in the area to keep an eye out for him.

Air support was also provided by a HM Coastguard helicopter.

His backpack was recovered during the search, but at that time there was no sign of Mr Kelly.

In an update on Wednesday, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
