Girl, 14, who died after suspected drug incident is named - as family pay tribute

The family of a 14-year-old girl who died after a suspected drug incident say they have been left “devastated” by her death.

Police Scotland said officers were called to a report of a teenage girl “taken unwell” at a property in Inverkeithing at around 2.45am on Monday 18 September.

Carly Kilpatrick was taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

In a statement released after her death, her family said: “We are devastated by the loss of Carly and the circumstances surrounding her death.

“Carly was a loving daughter, sister, auntie and friend.

“She was a keen footballer and played for many local teams and will be deeply missed by us all.”

The teenager’s family thanked all those who have offered support and requested that their “privacy be respected” while they grieve.

A police spokesperson said: “Her death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are continuing.”

A 17-year-old boy was arrested and charged in connection with a drugs offence and was released pending further inquiries.

The force spokesperson added: “A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

Fife Council’s education manager Karen Lees said it was aware of the Inverkeithing High School pupil’s “tragic and untimely death”.

She added: “We are supporting the school community and in particular any pupils who knew this young person, providing space, time and help to those who might be impacted by this terrible event.”
