Man arrested after 11-year-old girl attacked by American XL bully crossbreed in Birmingham

A man has been arrested after an 11-year-old girl and two men were injured by an American XL bully crossbreed in Birmingham.

West Midlands Police said the 60-year-old was being held on suspicion of possessing a dog dangerously out of control, following the incident in the Bordesley Green area of the city on Saturday.

A video of the attack, in which two men were also injured after the dog twice broke free from its collar, appeared on the social media platform TikTok.

The 11-year-old who was attacked, Ana Paun, suffered shoulder and arm injuries in the attack.

She later told Sky News in an interview: “I want him [the dog] to go and die. I think the dogs like that should be banned.”

After the video appeared online, Home Secretary Suella Braverman said she was seeking “urgent advice” about banning American XL bully dogs.

Could American XL bully dogs be banned?

“The crossbreed bully XL/Staffordshire bull terrier puppy chased an 11-year-old girl and she sustained serious injuries to her shoulder and forearms. She was treated in hospital and is now recovering at home.

“Several people rushed to her aid and as the dog broke free from its owner a second time, a 20-year-old man was chased across a garage forecourt and was taken to hospital with bites to his shoulder and forearm, along with cuts and bruises from being dragged across the floor.”
