Couple arrested in South Carolina after 'using fake pregnancy belly to conceal more than 1,500g of cocaine'

Two people have been arrested in South Carolina for allegedly trying to carry illegal drugs under a fake pregnancy belly, according to police.

Suspects Anthony Miller and Cemeka Mitchem were stopped by police in April, after their car nearly collided with an 18-wheel vehicle.

At the time, Mitchem appeared visibly pregnant, the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department said, but when questioned separately, the pair gave conflicting information about the due date of the baby.

Realising that police were becoming suspicious, Mitchem took off running and “very quickly drugs fell from the fake rubber stomach,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement on social media.

Deputies discovered more than 1,500 grams of cocaine during the stop, according to the sheriff’s office.

The pair remain in custody.
