TikTok fined £12.7m for data protection breaches

TikTok has been fined £12.7m for breaches of data protection law, including using the personal data of children aged under 13 without parental consent.

The Information Commissioner’s Office said the Chinese-owned video app had not done enough to check who was using its platform or to remove the accounts of underage children already on the platform.

It was also criticised for not doing enough to remove the accounts of underage children already on the platform.

TikTok has responded, saying it disagrees with the fine, will review the ICO’s decision and is considering its next steps.
