Suspension ends for Liz Truss aide investigated over hostile briefing

The suspension of one of Liz Truss’s senior aides has come to an end, Downing Street has confirmed.

Jason Stein was a key advisor during the prime minister’s leadership campaign and had been serving as the acting head of political communications in Number 10.

But an investigation was launched by the Cabinet Office propriety and ethics team earlier this week over hostile briefings to the press about former chancellor and ex-health secretary Sajid Javid.

The Sunday Times reported that a Number 10 source had told them Mr Javid had not been considered for the chancellor role following the sacking of Kwasi Kwarteng because he is “s**t”.

It is not yet clear whether Mr Stein was found to have been responsible by the Cabinet Office, or if he has been reinstated.

But a Number 10 press secretary said: “The investigation has concluded and the suspension has ended.”

Sky News has contacted the Conservative Party for more detail.
