A further two people have died with COVID-19 in the UK and there have been 1,770 more cases reported.

It is the lowest number of COVID deaths recorded in daily figures since 6 September last year, and the fewest cases since 3 September.

Today’s numbers compare with 14 deaths within 28 days of a positive test and 1,671 cases recorded last Sunday.

Total deaths since the start of the pandemic stand at 127,605.

The latest government daily figures also show another 169,027 people had a first dose of a coronavirus vaccine and 438,837 had their second dose.

It means 17,669,379 are now fully vaccinated, while 35,371,669 have had at least one shot.

The government has said it will offer all adults a jab by the end of July, and in England anyone over 40 is now eligible.
