The 30 guests attending Prince Philip’s funeral have been announced

Buckingham Palace has revealed the 30 guests who will be attending Prince Philip’s funeral at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle on Saturday.

Coronavirus restrictions meant the ceremony has had to be scaled down, with only 30 guests allowed in contrast with the estimated 800 originally planned to attend.

The shortened guest list includes many of the Duke of Edinburgh‘s closest relatives but his great-grandchildren – including Princess Charlotte and Prince George – will not be there as they were likely thought too young for the televised proceedings.

Although he has largely stepped out of the spotlight, the Duke of York did speak to reporters following his father’s death.

He said the Queen had described the loss as leaving a “huge void” in her life.

The Queen and Prince Philip’s youngest son Edward will eventually inherit the title of the Duke of Edinburgh under plans first announced in 1999.

Joining his family members in paying tribute, the Earl of Wessex said his father had the “unique ability to make a lasting impression in a remarkably short time”.

“I, like all my family, have a lifetime of lasting impressions, inspiration, shared passions and love,” he said.

His wife, Sophie, has shared a close relationship with the Queen and tearfully told Sky News outside Windsor Castle that the monarch has “been amazing” since Prince Philip’s death.

Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge

The Duke of Sussex has already travelled to the UK from his home in California and is in quarantine ahead of the funeral.

He is able to attend due to a loophole in the travel restrictions which mean foreign arrivals can break their self-isolation to attend the funeral of a close family member.

It’s the first time he has returned to the UK since Harry and Meghan’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which they made allegations about their treatment by members of the Royal Family.

Harry’s pregnant wife Meghan has not flown over for the funeral on the medical advice of her doctor.
